School Is Back In Session!

Following a relaxing winter break, the students are back on campus and school is in full swing. The football team is hitting the books and the gym to prepare for the second semester. And of course, Mother Nature welcomed everyone back with a nice snow storm, which will make for some great after school skiing!

Seth Sheridan Pushes Through To A Unique Graduation

Seth Sheridan (Ashburnham, MA) came to Bridgton Academy in the fall of 2010 in order to regain the strength he had lost after a life changing knee injury.

Not wanting to give up, Seth made the decision to attend Bridgton Academy in order to open up new options for the following year. Shortly after arriving on campus, Seth's worst nightmare came true -- another knee injury. Seth returned home for the remainder of the semester for more surgery and rehab.

A few months later, Seth returned to campus, never wanting to quit. He acknowledged how easy it would have been to simply give up. Instead, Seth worked harder than anyone could imagine. He spent all of his free time in the weight room training to be the best he could be. He even stayed after class everyday to complete a year long course in one semester.

Seth saw the opportunity that was laid out for him, and took full advantage of it. His time at BA was unique, starting in January of 2011 and ending that next December. This past week in Chapel, Dean of Students Fletcher Carr and Headmaster Grady Vigneau presented Seth with his well earned diploma.

All faculty, staff, and coaches are happy to see the progress Seth has made and the success he has found. Seth will start at either the University of New Hampshire or Arizona State University in January, where he will work hard to walk onto the football team.

2011 Black and Grey Scrimmage Finds Success

With the football season completed, the guys kept up the hard work in preparation for this years Black and Grey scrimmage. Coaches from all around showed up for the event and to talk to the players. It was a huge success, and Bridgton Academy coaches and players greatly appreciate all of the support!

There were a number of coaches in attendance from Division I, II, and III schools.

Bridgton's Headmaster Grady Vigneau was in attendance and was able to speak with various coaches about the players.

Headmaster Vigneau was also able to catch up with the head coach from Framingham State about various BA alumni.

Coach Marcella took some time during the event to chat with coaches and answer any questions they had.

The scrimmage gave the coaches an opportunity to talk with the guys on the field and evaluate their skills. Pictured here Robert Kaslander (Verona, NJ) took a break to speak to a coach from Colgate University.

After the field work was complete, the guys sat down with the coaches to talk about opportunities for next year.

Jon Higgins (Cumberland, ME) spoke with representatives from a few schools, including UNH pictured here.

Western New England College took some time to speak with Stephen Stuart (Rehoboth Beach, DE) and provide him with some information about the school and the program.

BA Secures Win In Last Game of Season

In the final game of the season for the Wolverine’s football team, they went down to New Hampshire to face off again the Hawks of St. Anselms College. Bridgton came into this game having lost three out of the last four games they had played and were looking to finish the season on a high note.

Bridgton won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. It only took three plays for Bridgton reach the end-zone on a beautiful throw from Mitch Graziano (Kingston, MA) to Derek Beck (Martinsville, NJ), unfortunately a late flag brought the play back.

The wolverines recovered and worked their way down inside the three yard line on a great run by Josh Morales (Mount Sinai, NY), but again the play was called back with a penalty. Finally, Graziano made it into the endzone on a run of his own without any penalties and scored BA's first point of the game.

The Wolverine's defense came out firing as well, giving no ground to the Hawks. Tre Sanders (Alexandria, VA), who is normally a middle linebacker, played a spectacular game at nose guard and consistently found his way into the backfield to disrupt the play.

The Hawks were unable to score until the second half. Bridgton Academy quickly put two more scores on the board before the end of the first quarter. The score 21-0 lasted until the 3rd quarter when The Hawks put a field goal through the uprights to make it 21-3. Bridgton couldn't find the groove on offense and St. A's took advantage.

The next score was a catch from BA Alum Nick Marcella '10, son of Coach Rick Marcella. Coach Marcella admitted to quietly rooting for his son on the play saying "He's open.......don't drop it.......run.......faster." St.Anselm's made the score 18 to 21 after the 2 pt conversion also caught by Marcella.

BA found their groove just in time with a great catch and run by Coley Graham (Hamilton, NY) to seal the game 28-18. Bridgton Academy finishes their season with a record of 6-3.

Dartmouth Downs BA 21-12

The Bridgton Academy Wolverines traveled down to Hanover, New Hampshire this weekend to play the Big Green of Dartmouth. It took Bridgton a quarter to get off the bus, and by the time they came around, the score was 21-0 Dartmouth. The BA defense was forced into tough positions due to dropped passes, some of which resulted in tip-drill interceptions, and missed assignments. Dartmouth never found the score board again, however, as the BA defense found a way to get it done. Bridgton in the second half managed to score twice, but it wasn't enough. Dartmouth put pressure on the quarterback all day especially in the second half and managed to hold on to the victory, 21-12.

This game was all about starting and finishing. Bridgton started slow and couldn't finish, which led to their 3rd loss of the season. Bridgton travels to St. Anselm's in Manchester, NH next Sunday for their final game of the season.

Important Schedule Change

This Sunday's football game vs. Becker College has been canceled. We will not be seeking a replacement game at this point so the boys will have a much needed weekend off. The next game will be November 6th at Dartmouth College.

BA Falls to Brown

The football team has a tough match up this week as they traveled down to Providence Rhode Island to play the Brown University JV squad. Although it was a well played game, Bridgton ultimately lost 31-18 to Brown. Bridgton came out of the gates fast, scoring on the third play of the game on a screen pass from quarterback Mitch Graziano (Kingston, MA) to wide receiver Derek Beck (Martinsville, NJ) for a 75 yard touchdown. Brown quickly answered with a long 69 yard touchdown pass of their own giving Brown a 7-6 lead just minutes into the game. The next score was a Brown touchdown pass with just under five minutes to go in the half. Bridgton was the team to answer back this time with a score right before the half with a touchdown reception to Austin Harrington (Chanhassen, MN) from quarterback Mike Luks (Amherst, NH). Brown had a slight 14-12 lead going into the half.

The second half started off with a “Brown Bang”. Only 21 seconds into the half, Brown threw for a 54 yard touchdown making the game 21-12. Bridgton got the ball back and threw an interception which led to the second consecutive touchdown drive for Brown in the second half giving them a 28-12 lead. In the fourth quarter, Brown extended their lead with a field goal to make the score 31-12. Bridgton showed some life and made a successful drive which ended in a touchdown pass to Harrington. Brown blocked the extra point, and took away the 31-18 win.

Bridgton Sneaks Past Columbia J.V.

Bridgton Academy drove all the way down to New York City this week to face off against Columbia University. The BA-CU game last year was a barn-burner and this year proved to be just the same.

Bridgton brought their defense up to the plate first with a couple of stops, but eventually Columbia was the first to get on the scoreboard with a field goal making the game 3-0. Bridgton then responded with two touchdowns to make the score 14-3. Columbia answered with a touchdown of their own closing the gap to 14-10 with only a minutes remaining in the first half. The Wolverines then worked their two minute drill to perfection and scored as time ran out to take a 21-10 lead going into the half. Coach Marcella at half time was adamant that the game was not over, "Columbia will find a way to get back into the game."

As Coach Marcella predicted, Columbia did just that. Columbia scored first in the 2nd half making it a 21-17 game. Bridgton came back with a score of their own to make it 28-17. Columbia then scored a touchdown, failing on a two point conversion, to make it 28-23 Bridgton followed by another touchdown to make it 28-30 Columbia. This was their first lead in the game since their first field goal in the first quarter. Columbia's next possession again started well into Bridgton territory. They were looking to score a touchdown and go ahead by two scores, but the Wolverine defense who had played very well all game stopped the Columbia offense in dramatic fashion and forced them to take a field goal to make the score 33-28 Columbia. Poor Special Teams play by Bridgton and great Columbia field position swung the momentum back their way. Bridgton answered back with a touch down of their own in the final minutes of the game to make the score 34-33 Bridgton after a failed two point conversion.

In one last attempt, Columbia drove the ball into BA territory well inside field goal range. Bridgton defense had a huge sack which pushed Columbia out of field goal range and made it fourth down. Columbia’s throw was incomplete and the Wolverines took over to finish the game with a final score of Bridgton 34, Columbia 33.

Bridgton will travel to Brown University next Sunday, a game that has proven to be tough battle every year. Kick off is set for 1:00 P.M.

BA Suffers First Loss to Navy Prep

The football team was on the road this week as they traveled to Navy Prep. The defenses for both teams were the first to make their mark on the game. No points were scored for either team until Navy broke through and scored on a pass play to the running back streaking down the seam. BA went three and out on their next possession and were forced to punt. Navy found themselves on the score board again blocking the punt and returning it for another touchdown. Bridgton might have been down but they weren't out. After the blocked punt the Wolverine offense marched down the field and with a full layout touchdown catch from Mitch Graziano (Kingston, MA) to Austin Harrington (Chanhassen, MN). Navy managed to put another score in before the half to make the score 21-7. Bridgton then came back to score in the 3rd quarter on a quarterback scramble by Mike Luks (Amherst, NH) to make the score 28-14. Navy would go on to score two more times and Bridgton once more on a run by Sean Reed (West Windsor, NJ) making the final 42-21, in favor of Navy.

Up next the football team will travel to Columbia University to play this Friday at 3:00 P.M.

Stephen Cronan Named September Athlete of the Month

Steve Cronan has been announced as September's Athlete of the Month. Athletic Director Joe Sawicki takes nominations from all coaches and assesses the athletes based not only on performance, but on character and leadership as well. At quarterback, Cronon has lead the team on and off the field, and in the book. The football team was 3-2 for month of September with Cronoan leading the pack. In the five games, Cronan went 19-28 passing for 276 yards. He had six touchdown passes and only one interception. Cronan also ran the ball 13 times for 34 yards and two touchdowns.

Bridgton faced off against the Merrimack Warriors this Sunday in what would prove to be a defensive battle. Bridgton Came out firing early scoring two touchdowns in the first half, both rushes by Sean Reed (West Windsor, NJ).

The defense played very well keeping Merrimack out of the end zone, however failed to come out of the locker room in the second half and allowed the opening kickoff return go for a touchdown making the score 14-6 just ten seconds into the second half. Merrimack came back again the next drive with scoring range but killed the drive due to penalties. Bridgton’s defense, though playing in horrible conditions, managed to keep Merrimack out of the end zone in the second half maintaining the 14-6 victory.

Coach Marcella though happy to win another game, repeated previous weeks in saying “there is still a lot to work on.”

Up next the football team will travel to Navy Prep to play at 2:00 PM on Saturday October 8th.

Parents' Weekend is Here!

BA 24 - Holy Cross 14

This week the Wolverines traveled down to Worcester, Massachusetts to face their first FCS opponent of the year, The College of the Holy Cross. Holy Cross has had the upper hand in this match-up for the most part, with the last Bridgton Academy win coming in 2007. It wasn't looking good for either spread offense with heavy rain making passing the ball an adventure. Bridgton came out early and succeeded in establishing the run game with their two workhorses, Sean Reed (Plainsboro, NJ) and leading BA rusher for the game, Josh Morales (Mount Sinai, NY). The two combined for 90 out of the 130 total rushing yards for the day.

In spite of the weather, Bridgton's quarterbacks and receivers found a way to get the job done with 179 total passing yards and two touchdowns through the air and one Rushing touchdown, a tribute to the offensive line who only gave up one sack all day.

The first quarter, started with the special teams of both teams getting their work in the punt game. Bridgton was the first to break through on the score board with a pass from Mike Luks (Amherst, NH) to Derek Beck (Martinsville, NJ) for a touchdown. The Wolverines then converted their first field goal of the season by Mitch Graziano (Kingston, MA) to make the score 10-0.

However, Holy Cross wasn't about to roll over. Before the half, the Crusaders put a score on the board to make it 10-7 going into the locker room.

Coming out in the second half, the Wolverines continued to be consistent scoring two more touchdowns. One on a connection from Steven Cronan (Hampton, NH) to Austin Harrington (Chanhassen, MN) and the second a rush from the Cronan. The Bridgton defense in the second half was ready for Holy Cross allowing no offensive points. The only points scored by Holy Cross in the second half was an interception return for a touchdown. It was an all around defensive effort, headed up by the defensive line, Jeff Amell (Bar Mills, ME), Will Wowkanyn (Brick, NJ), and Landon Moore (Saratoga, NY) who consistently put pressure on the Holy Cross backfield.

"I'm pleased with the progress the team made in all three areas of the game this week," said Head Coach Rick Marcella. "That said, one look at the video will tell us that there is a long way yet to go. Weekly improvement will always remain our goal."

Next Week, Bridgton will be hosting Parent's Weekend. The football team will be facing off against Merrimack College in their last home game of the year. We look forward to seeing all of the parents next weekend!

Football Wins Again

The football team traveled to Curry College this weekend to face off against the Colonels and walked away with a 40-6 victory. Bridgton opened the game with a bang with a 60 yard reception from quarterback Steven Cronan (Hampton, NH) to Austin Harrington (Chanhassen, MN). On the second play of the game, Bridgton was on the board with a reception from Cronan to Seth Sheridan (Ashburnham, MA) and was in control for the rest of the game allowing only one touchdown in the second half. Sheridan was the big target this game catching a total of three touchdowns. To open the second quarter, Will Luks (Amherst, NH) and Derek Beck (Martinsville, NJ) connected, continuing the air assault, on a 42 yard touchdown reception. The next possession was much the same as Bobby Kaslander (Verona, NJ) hauled in a 50 yard flee flicker which set up a powerful 12 yard run by Josh Morales (Mount Sinai, NY) for the touchdown. Sheridan in the 3rd quarter with Mitch Graziano (Kingston, MA) at the helm caught 2 more passes for over twenty yards and another touchdown to cap off his day.

The offiensive line was in fine shape again allowing the trio of quarterbacks to do their work with little or no pressure. John Higgins (Cumberland, ME), George Benakis (Ontario, Can), Jared Anderson (East Longmeadow, MA), Ben Schmidt (Wakefield, MA), Brandon Johnson (Wakefield, MA), James Aloisio (Middleton, MA), and Ryan Mrozek (Shelton, CT) all held the the wall.

On defense, Bridgton had a solid day keeping Curry out of the endzone until well into the 2nd half.

Next week the level of competition goes way up as Bridgton Academy goes down to Worcester, MA to face off against Holy Cross, the first I-AA opponent of the year. "Another great win, but will have to play cleaner in all aspects of the game going into Next week against Holy Cross. We have to continue to improve and have a great week of practice." says Coach Marcella.

Football Blows Past Springfield in Home Opener!

The football team started their season this Sunday with a physical 54-6 win against the Pride of Springfield College. Though working out some opening game jitters the Wolverines came out firing and continued for the entire game. Six different players scored for a total of seven touchdowns for Bridgton Academy. Derek Beck, Robert Kaslander, and Austin Harrington combined for four BA passing touchdowns. Stephan Cronan also had a five yard run count for six points. Even the defense was involved in the scoring with an interception return for a touchdown by Taren Collier and a fumble, forced by Connor McAleney, created a return for a touchdown by Karlos Locke. The defense was solid all game forcing consistent pressure in the backfield and creating great coverage in the secondary. In all, 12 different offensive players made receptions or ran the ball and every player on the BA squad got playing time. Though excited for his team, Coach Marcella kept his eyes forward with his comments after the game. He simply said “A great way to start, but a long way to go.”

Wolverine Football Is Hiring

Bridgton Academy, the nation's postgraduate school for young men is seeking an Assistant Football Coach for the 2011 season. This part time position reports to the Head Football Coach and is responsible for working alongside the coaching staff in preparation, planning, and implementation of football practices and games. The coaching of a specific position will be based on the qualifications of the individual candidate.

Position will start on Aug. 15^th and runs through last game on Nov. 13^th. Coach will also be invited to take part in annual Scouting Scrimmage in December as well as attending and presenting at the end of the season banquet in January.

Qualifications: Required: Experience coaching football at the high school or collegiate level, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to travel and work non-traditional hours. Collegiate playing experience preferred.

Compensation: Stipend and meals in the schools dining facility.

Jon Day Named Scholar Athlete

Bridgton Academy is pleased to announce that Jon Day (Gorham, ME) is this year’s recipient of The Scholar Athlete Award from The State of Maine Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. It is the mission of the National Football Foundation to “inspire our nation’s youth to compete on the athletic fields and in the classroom and to assume leadership roles on the high school and college campuses today.”

Jon has worked very hard this year in the classroom and on the football field and follows in the footsteps of many Bridgton Academy alumni who have also received this award. Matt Burgess ’88 was the first recipient from Bridgton Academy and is now a current faculty member and football coach at the Academy. Along with Burgess other recipients include:

Head football coach, Rick Marcella said of Day, “The thing that strikes me the most about Jon is his work ethic. He brings that with him everywhere he goes, with great motivation and follow through. Jon refuses to be outworked by anybody.”

Grady Vigneau, Headmaster said, “Having previously been an officer of the Vermont Chapter of the NFF, I know first hand just how much thought and evaluation goes into the selection of a recipient for a state's Scholar Athlete Award. As such, Jon's recognition speaks volumes about his accomplishments this year at Bridgton Academy. In the classroom, as a campus citizen, and on the football field, Jon has been a leader, an achiever, and an inspiration. As an Academy, we congratulate Jon and thank him for all he has done this year as a member of the Class of '11"

Ray Mitchell '68 and Terry Silva '70

Bridgton Academy wants to congratulate Ray Mitchell ’68 and Terry Silva '70 on their induction to the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Ray attended Bridgton Academy prior to a stellar career at American International College. After graduation, Ray coached at a few different schools before settling at Holyoke High School. After eight years as an assistant coach, Ray worked his way to the head coaching position and over a span of 16 years had a record of 101-62-1 which included three Conference Championships, two Super Bowl Championships, and an undefeated season in 1995.

Coach Tom Austin kept track of Ray’s success after Bridgton and is happy to see him earn the recognition he deserves. “His success does not surprise me,” commented Coach Austin. “He was so focused on what he needed to do, and he has obviously inculcated that with the boys he has coached over the years,” Coach Austin added.

Terry Silva '70 attended Bridgton Academy and was the team captain of the legendary undefeated football team. After his year at Bridgton Terry attended Hobart and William Smith College and upon graduation embarked on his coaching career. Terry took a job at Gloucester High School and left with a record of 154 wins and 3 Super Bowl Championships.

Coach Austin remembers Terry's leadership and dedication to the sport saying, "He was always very enthused about the game of football. He was a great leader which has clearly carried over to his coaching career."

Coach Marcella opened the 2010-2011 football banquet presentation by thanking his colleagues within the Bridgton Academy community for their continued support and "enabling us to offer the quality programs that we do".

He continued "Most importantly, thank you parents for entrusting your sons to us. This is a very unique environment----we are vastly different from traditional prep schools that attempt to integrate 5 Post Graduate Football players into a High School setting. Many of you could have sent your sons to such schools----- and they would have played 90% of every game by acclimation. But you chose instead to send them North—into our college-like environment where they had to earn their way onto the field. I’m sure some of parents fielded the call “Come get me—NOW!” Yet you resisted---and prepared to barnstorm with us across New England all fall---keeping our legions well-fed,---and made some new friends in the process."

"At BA-in every sport, we play to win. But winning is just a by-product of our other goals and priorities, of which there are many. I'd like to talk about just a few:

Responsibility-to yourself: To each day give it your best effort-to work to improve. Responsibility to your teammates: To show up-ON TIME-To execute your assignments, and to play your role-remembering the mantra-“Don’t count the plays, make the plays count”!

Time Management-Just follow this simple formula-Up at 5:30 for a 6am lift-3 Classes and a lab before a 20 minute lunch-Last Class ends @ 2:45-On the field by 3:15-Off by 5:50 for a 6 O’clock meal that ends at 7. Study hall 7:30-9:30—Check-in at 10:30-Piece of cake!

Consistency-Anyone can do it once. Executing a block---Making a tackle---catching a pass---keeping contain---going to class---getting extra help---completing assignments on time----these things are of little value unless done with consistency.

Respect-for your teammates—for your coaches—your opponents—the officials—(Remember-Only Coach Daley gets to berate the officials!)---Respect for —your classmates—your instructors—and certainly yourself.

I am convinced, that Bridgton Academy works,…..not because we put the student in the Student / Athlete ……BA works because we bring the student OUT in the Student/Athlete.
Before the assistant coaches made their presentations, Coach Marcella shared this with the audience:

"I consider myself very fortunate to work with these gentlemen. The game of football places incredible demands upon the men carrying clipboards & wearing the whistles around their necks. Rather than talk about how many hours they put into daily & weekly preparation, ......or their associated job descriptions as fathers, dorm heads, teachers, and advisors ---I will just say that what impresses me the most about these gentlemen, is their passion for utilizing the game of football as a vehicle through which they help take 50 kids fresh out of high school -----and turn them into ready-for-college young men. "

The Coaches Awards: These awards are aptly named. They are voted on by the staff collectively.

The Criteria is pretty “Old School” --It's OK if the kid is a great player ----but not the top priority. He should be an individual who brings a passion for the game with him every day-----he is respectful to his coaches and his teammates------ a young man who can be counted upon to do the right thing, and one we all enjoy working with.

We had an outstanding group of young men, many, many worthy of recognition. That said , I ‘m proud to present the 2010 FB Coaches Awards to:

The Wolverine Award: This is based upon a pen & ink drawing that hangs in the FB Office. It depicts a Wolverine ready to do battle in the wild, underneath which reads this description:

"Utterly fearless, he neither asks or gives quarter. He can and will fight anything anywhere. As he ruches into combat, he growls & cries--No matter what the odds, he never gives ground. It is Victory or Death."

This is the sophomore year of tradition that began last year. In my mind, this is the most prestigious award given today because it is voted on by the recipient’s teammates. On a moments notice, I asked the team to vote for the one individual who best fits that description and embodied what the game of Football is all about:

Coach Tom Austin to be Recognized by Gridiron Club

BA legend Tom Austin will be recognized this Thursday, January 13th, with the John Baronian Award for Lifetime Contribution to Football by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston. The honor will be bestowed to Coach Austin at the Westin Hotel in Waltham, MA, next Thursday at their annual awards banquet. Tickets are available for purchase via the Gridiron Club's website.

Tom Austin coached BA football for over fifteen years. During that time he served in various other roles at the Academy, including as an administrator, advisor, dorm parent, lacrosse coach, and more. He currently works as a member of the Alumni & Development staff, as well as a student adviser and resident expert in all things Bridgton. In 2004, Tom was inducted into the BA Hall of Fame.

Coach Austin's years away from Bridgton were spent as the Head Football Coach at Colby College. Tom spent eightteen years as Colby's coach, retiring in 2003. Admissions Counselors in MA, CT, and ME!

On January 4-6 the admissions office will have various counselors and coaches around Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maine. They will be visiting various schools over the few days to talk with any students who are interested in a year at BA.

Coach Marcella will be in CT visiting Woodland, Ansonia, Naugatuck, Oxford, Seymour, Cheshire, Shelton, Wolcott, Amity, West Haven, Norte Dame, Newtown, Nonnewaug, Pomperaug, Trumbull, St. Joes, The Brunswick School, Darien, Staples, WIlton, Greenwich, New Cannon, and Weston. Meanwhile Coach Patterson will be in Mass visiting Somerville, Belmont, Groton-Dunstable, Littleton, Medford, Winchester, Wakefield, and Malden. Coach Burgess will also be visiting schools in Maine including Marshwood, Traip Academy, Wells, Kennebunk, Massabesic, Biddeford, Thornton Academy, Portsmouth, Rochester, and Sanford. We also have various other coaches around Mass, Maine, and Connecticut who would love to set up a meeting. Annual Black and Grey Recruiting Combine is a Success

Although the football season ended almost a month ago, the team has been working as hard as ever to prepare for their annual Black and Grey Recruiting Showcase in front of numerous college coaches. After a series of drills and scrimmages, the players had a chance to meet with all of the coaches and talk about the various schools and their programs.

There were a wide variety of coaches at the showcase from all divisions.

The Coaches from Norwich University took some time to get a picture with Bridgton Academy Headmaster Grady Vigneau.

Mr. Vigneau chatted with some coaches, including the University of Maine's Coach Jack Cosgrove.

The guys were put through a number of drills and plays so the coaches could get a good look in.

Husson Univeristy Coaches give a short presentation to a few Wolverines.

Shawn Sweeney (Saratoga Springs, NY) took a seat to talk with a coach from Pace University.

Alex Demarco (Hamden, CT) chatted with a coach from the University of Massachusetts.

Connor Candito (Shrewsbury, MA) sat down with a coach from Stonehill College.

Jon Day (Gorham, ME) chats with Head Coach JB Wells of Endicott College and one of his assistants.

Parrish Rogers-Reed (Westfield, MA) met an Anna Maria Coach.

Tanner Baillargeon (Glen, NH) spoke with Head Coach John Perry from Merrimack College.

Columbia Slips Past BA

The Bridgton Football team ended its 2010 campaign with a loss at Columbia University. Many injuries prevented the wolverines from having a productive game on both sides of the ball. The final score being 30-14. Wide Receiver Stephen Sweeney (Mahwah, NJ) had the only two scores on the day and the extra points added in by Marcus Hackett (Montclair, NJ). Joe McCarthy (West Roxbury, MA) also had a productive day with significant catches and quality return yards during the game. Defensively, Connor Candito (Shrewsbury, MA) had a productive day consistently making plays and flying around the field.

The Wolverines will start to prepare themselves for the annual Black & Gray showcase on December 8th. Student-athletes will be hitting the books hard heading into the thanksgiving break as well becoming bigger stronger and faster in the off-season. The football wolverines ended the season 6-4.

Football Rolls Over Dartmouth J.V.

Bridgton Academy went to Hanover, NH to take on the Dartmouth College Big Green. The final score was 39-30 with Bridgton Academy grabbing the wild win securing a winning season for the 2010 football season.

The Bridgton running attack seemed to be no match for Dartmouth led by Hunter Beckmann (Shrewsbury, MA) who had 13 rushes for 102-yards and a touchdown. Jacob Grills (Niantic, CT) also led the pack with 14 rushes for 92-yards and two touchdowns. He also threw for 133-yards and his third touchdown of the day. Julian Griffin (New Rochelle, NY) had 32-yards rushing and a touchdown. Daryl Shuler (Peekskill, NY) added 47-yards rushing and a touchdown while Marcus Hackett (Montclair, NJ) had two catches for 82-yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Wolverines forced five turnovers including three fumbles recovered and two interceptions, one coming in the last two minutes of the game to secure the win. Defensive Back Charlie Bates (Reading, MA) came up huge in big situations, namely when he grabbed an interception to secure the win for the Wolverines. Parrish Rogers-Reed (Westfield, MA) had 19 total tackles for the day, 10 of which were solo. Connor Candito (Shrewsbury, MA) also tallied 12 tackles, a fumble recovery, and an interception.

With a short week of preparation, Bridgton will be looking to end their season on top when they face Columbia University on Friday, November 12th at 2pm.
